Jewish sites to get extra protection in Brussels and Antwerp

Belgian home minister Annelies Verlinden (Flemish Chirstian democrat) has confirmed extra police patrols will be staged to ensure security at sites linked to the Jewish community. There are fears these sites could be targeted as tension rises due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East.

The home minister has ordered extra police patrols at Jewish sites in Antwerp and Brussels in order to guarantee security at Jewish institutions and for the Jewish community.

The terror threat level remains at level 3, the second highest level that means the current threat is serious. Earlier the national crisis centre indicated the need for greater surveillance of (Jewish) schools and places of worship. Minister Verlinden asked the federal police to decide on the exact nature of increased security in consultation with local police forces.
