MOSCOW/TASS/ – The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a security bloc spearheaded by Russia, is currently undertaking strategic command exercises. These exercises are designed to enhance their ability to stabilize situations in the Central Asian region in light of increasing threats, as stated by Vladislav Shchegrikovich, a representative for the CSTO Joint Headquarters.
Shchegrikovich elaborated that these exercises involve the creation of a simulated military-political and strategic situation, with the identities of countries and organizations being modified. The goal is to mimic a crisis scenario within the CSTO’s jurisdiction, representative of the Central Asian region of collective security.
CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov emphasized the importance of conducting these drills amidst a challenging international climate. “Global conflicts are escalating, with new areas of tension surfacing, including within the CSTO’s area of responsibility. Contemporary crises are complex, necessitating holistic strategies for resolution,” he commented. Tasmagambetov further clarified that the drills are intended to refine the collective crisis response mechanism and evaluate its effectiveness.
The exercises are being overseen by Colonel General Andrey Serdyukov, the Chief of the Joint Headquarters.
As per the drill’s narrative, the president of a CSTO member state seeks assistance from the chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council. An emergency session of the Council is then convened to sanction a peacekeeping operation. To execute this decision, crisis response centers and management groups from the member states are formed. Particular emphasis is placed on the mobilization of peacekeeping forces, their deployment to the conflict zone, and matters pertaining to military support logistics.
